" I don't follow fashion, I just wear what I like".
I hear this phrase a lot from women of all ages, shapes and sizes. And, often it's said like it's a virtue - proof that the woman saying it is strong enough and confident enough to withstand the pressure from the fluffy and superficial fashion industry.
I prefer to call myself a 'personal stylist, as opposed to a 'fashion stylist'. I concentrate on creating a perfect match between your personality, body shape, colouring and clothing. So I don't advocate that every single new and latest trend has to be followed slavishly.
Fashion is important too though. There are strong trends each season that you should embrace. These include colours, clothes and accessories. You don't have to become a slave to fashion, but do take note of the different and new directions and then adopt some of them to incorporate into your existing wardrobe.
There may be garments in your existing wardrobe that need to be 'retired' too. Although fashion does cycle, it's very rare that a trend item from 1996 will look current in 2016, even though the idea of the trend has been recycled.
Regularly inject some new fashion pieces into your wardrobe, and just as regularly, retire the old ones.
This ensures that not only your wardrobe remains current. A dated piece of clothing will unfortunately date you too.
I am available for Personal Style workshops, public speaking, wardrobe and colour consultations and personal shopping styling sessions, based in Perth, Western Australia.
